On October 17th, NHS England London Region, the London Pakistani Community Vaccination and Screening Group and Voice4Change England joined forces to inform and engage with the Pakistani community around how winter vaccinations play an important role in staying well this winter.

The event was open to all communities and provided vital health information to attendees, empowering them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing as winter approaches and we spend more time indoors with others, increasing the spread of viruses.

The webinar featured an impressive lineup of speakers who shared their expertise on various aspects of winter vaccinations:

Riyadul Karim, Assistant Director for Community Engagement and Vaccine/Screening Equity, NHS England, London Region, kicked off the session with an overview of the Winter Vaccination Programme, emphasising the importance of vaccines against RSV, flu, COVID-19, pneumococcal disease, and shingles especially to people in our communities who are at risk of serious illness from these diseases.

Bobbie Scott, Head of Information and Performances NHS England, London Region, provided valuable insights into vaccination uptake trends among London communities, shedding light on where more engagement and sharing trusted factual information may be needed.

Dr. Muhammad Waqqas Naqvi, GP, Woodgrange Medical Practice and NHS NEL Clinical Lead, Vaccinations, Immunisations and Screening, demystified the science behind vaccines, helpfully explaining how they work, their benefits, and the winter vaccine schedule.

Dr. Tehseen Khan, GP Spring Hill Practice, Clinical Director, Springfield Park Primary Care Network, addressed common concerns and myths, particularly focusing on the need to speak to a trusted healthcare professional such as a GP, pharmacist, consultant, practice nurse or maternity team; all of whom can provide evidence-based information. Dr. Khan's presentation also offered practical tips for staying healthy during the winter months.

One of the highlights of the event was the lively Q&A session. Attendees took full advantage of the opportunity to voice their concerns and ask questions to the clinical specialists. The comprehensive discussion covered various topics, including different types of vaccines, common side effects, and addressed several misconceptions.

As we move into the winter season, the knowledge shared during this webinar will undoubtedly play a helpful role in supporting communities to make an informed decision about having their winter vaccinations and raise the overall health awareness in the community.
