Diversity in Social Enterprise

Diversty in Social Enterprise, a national campaign dedicated to highlighting the diverse businesses, social impact and values in this sector.

I joined Voice4Change England because I wanted a strong connection to the national BME agenda. Helping to highlight social enterprise in the UK through a local network and national campaign means that many of the people we meet are from BME communities and have been helped through peer networking. There are so many challenges and issues in starting a third sector organisation and being associated with V4CE gives us a feeling of being valued and less isolated.

As V4CE members, we were able to sponsor 20 young entrepreneurs and send them to the Voice11 event, the UK’s biggest social enterprise event. We took advantage of this invaluable opportunity to learn and network with the best in the field. Without V4CE the young entrepreneurs would not have had this fantastic experience to be inspired and meet Baroness Howells amongst others. This was a first time experience for the young entrepreneurs and a great thing for them to take back to their businesses in Bedford. The event allowed us to create partnerships and launch our ‘Diversity in Social Enterprise’ exhibition. No other national organisation could offer us a platform like this!

Charities Evaluation Services

The UK's leading provider of support and advice on quality and evaluation systems for the voluntary sector

Over the last two years, CES has been working in partnership with V4CE, in order to deliver targeted support and development services to the BME voluntary sector. Our joint programme has been a great success, and has enabled us to extend our reach within the BME sector. Working closely with V4CE has meant that we were able to develop resources that are relevant and appropriate to their members; it has also helped us increase our understanding in terms of the specific needs of BME organisations, especially within a changing and fast moving economic and political environment.

One North West

The BME network for the North West

V4CE has supported One North West in influencing policy and having a voice at the national level. As well as promoting the voice of the North West's BME voluntary and community sector, V4CE has supported a stronger sector through a training programme on how to use the Compact and Public Law. They have provided network support by assisting us with training on how to evidence the value of infrastructure.

Apna Haq

They provide confidential, one to one support for Asian women and children experiencing domestic violence.

There was a real threat that organisations like Apna Haq would be closed down in an attempt to absorb services into the generic sector. But V4CE represented our voice to policy makers and fought this agenda. They also send a clear message to other BME organisations and commissioners that the work of the BME sector must be valued and built upon.

We attended V4CE’s parliamentary event which was an excellent opportunity to meet and influence policy makers at the top level. The event gave us a platform to voice issues and influence policy making structures that normally exclude us.
